John Green is back with a new novel, nearly a decade after his last fiction release.

Hollywood, Ending, Green’s first adult fiction novel, officially hits bookstores and digital platforms on Sept. 22. The release marks his first new novel in nine years and brings the bestselling author into a Hollywood story centered on fame, romance and life in the public eye.

Green is also marking the release with a Sept. 22 appearance at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, where he will talk about the new book as part of his national tour.

What Hollywood, Ending Is About

The novel follows two young actors, Kai Laramie and Juniper Castillo, who land roles in a buzzy biopic called Andy Warhol Never Gets Old.

For both actors, the movie could be their big break. Kai is 20 and just starting his acting career, while Juniper, 22, is taking on her first adult role after working as a child star.

As production moves forward, the two begin developing a relationship while their movie attracts growing attention.

Their private lives soon become part of the public conversation, creating a central conflict between their personal relationship and the demands of celebrity culture.

Green uses the fictional movie set to explore what happens when young performers suddenly find themselves under intense public attention.

The story looks at social media, publicity, press coverage and the pressure that comes with becoming recognizable to a large audience.

The publisher describes the novel as a behind-the-scenes Hollywood love story that examines the tension between public and private life.

That subject also gives Green a different setting from the young adult stories that helped establish his name with readers.

A New Chapter for the Bestselling Author

Hollywood, Ending is Green’s first adult fiction novel.

His earlier fiction includes Looking for Alaska, The Fault in Our Stars and Turtles All the Way Down. His more recent nonfiction work includes The Anthropocene Reviewed and Everything Is Tuberculosis.

The new book is being released in hardcover, ebook and audiobook formats on Sept. 22. The hardcover edition is 304 pages.

John Green Brings the Book to Brooklyn

Green’s release-day appearance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.

The event is being presented with Lofty Pigeon Books and is part of Green’s larger Hollywood, Ending tour. Each ticket includes a copy of the new novel, according to Green’s official event listing.

The tour continues across the United States through October, with stops scheduled in cities including Birmingham, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Diego.
