The San Antonio Spurs are bringing local basketball coaches together at Frost Bank Center on October 4 for the second annual Gregg Popovich Coach to Coaches Clinic.
The free afternoon clinic will give basketball coaches of all levels an opportunity to learn from Spurs coaches and staff before the team’s Silver & Black Open Scrimmage later that day. The clinic is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Spurs Coaches Will Lead the Clinic
Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson and members of his coaching staff will lead the program.
The announced lineup includes Johnson, associate head coach Billy Donovan, assistant coach and director of player development Mike Noyes, and assistant shooting coach Jimmy Baron. The program covers topics including leadership, team culture, practice strategy, player development and shooting instruction.
The clinic is designed for coaches, officials, educators and aspiring coaches at different levels of the game.
More Than 800 Coaches Joined Last Year’s Event
The first Gregg Popovich Coach to Coaches Clinic drew more than 800 coaches representing more than 200 schools, organizations and communities across the San Antonio area.
The second edition gives the Spurs another opportunity to connect their professional coaching staff with people working with young athletes throughout the area.
The program also reflects one of the central ideas associated with Popovich’s coaching legacy: sharing knowledge and helping other coaches develop.
What Coaches Will Learn
The clinic features practical basketball instruction rather than simply a series of speeches.
Sessions cover areas such as practice design, player development, shooting instruction and leadership. The Spurs’ coaching staff will share approaches used within the organization through the Coach the Coaches program.
Participants can also access the Spurs’ Coach the Coaches Learning Library, which includes instructional material covering basketball concepts and practice drills.
Free Registration Is Available
The clinic is free for eligible participants, but registration is required.
Registration is scheduled to remain open through October 2 or until available spots are filled. Coaches who register receive a commemorative Coach the Coaches shirt, lanyard and whistle.
The program is open to basketball coaches at all levels, giving youth, school and community coaches an opportunity to take part.
The Clinic Leads Into a Spurs Scrimmage
The coaching clinic is scheduled ahead of the Silver & Black Open Scrimmage at Frost Bank Center.
Registered coaches receive access to the scrimmage following the afternoon clinic, creating a full day of Spurs basketball programming. The scrimmage is scheduled for 6 p.m.
That gives participants a chance to move from coaching instruction to watching the Spurs prepare on the court.
Popovich’s Coaching Legacy Remains Part of the Program
Although Gregg Popovich is no longer the Spurs’ head coach, his name remains closely connected to the organization’s coaching culture.
Popovich stepped away from the Spurs’ head coaching position in 2025 after 29 seasons, while remaining with the organization in a basketball operations role. Mitch Johnson succeeded him as head coach.
The clinic carrying Popovich’s name gives the Spurs a way to continue sharing coaching principles with the broader San Antonio basketball community.
When Is the Gregg Popovich Coach to Coaches Clinic?
The second annual clinic takes place Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Registration is free and is available to basketball coaches, officials, educators and aspiring coaches.
With hundreds of coaches expected to take part and the Spurs’ coaching staff leading hands-on sessions, the event gives San Antonio’s basketball community a chance to learn directly from the organization while carrying the city’s basketball culture into its next generation.
