Missouri Gem Hunter Makes a Stunning Arkansas Discovery

A longtime gem hunter has struck an extraordinary find at Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park, uncovering a 6.03-carat yellow diamond that he says collectors have suggested could be worth more than $1 million.

Jack Pearadin, originally from Missouri, has spent more than a decade searching for gems at the Murfreesboro park. He has discovered more than 300 gems there since beginning his searches in 2013, but none compared with the diamond he found earlier this year.

The Diamond Was Found During a Livestream

Pearadin discovered the diamond while processing gravel from the park’s diamond search area during a TikTok livestream.

As he rinsed and sorted the gravel, he noticed something shining among the rocks. The stone turned out to be a 6.03-carat yellow diamond, roughly the size of a fingernail.

The discovery was later confirmed by park officials. The stone has a bright yellow color and an unusual crystal structure.

Pearadin and his friend Michael Schumacher named it the American Dream diamond. Schumacher had helped collect the gravel that produced the find.

A Rare Find at the Arkansas Park

The American Dream is the largest diamond registered at Crater of Diamonds State Park in 2026. It also ranks among the largest diamonds ever registered at the park since it became an Arkansas state park in 1972.

Park officials said the stone appears to have a 48-sided crystal structure known as a hexoctahedron, a relatively uncommon shape among diamonds found there.

The discovery adds another remarkable chapter to the history of the unusual Arkansas destination, where visitors are allowed to search for diamonds and keep what they find.

Could the Diamond Really Be Worth $1 Million?

The potential value of the stone has attracted plenty of attention, but the $1 million figure remains an estimate rather than an established sale price.

Pearadin said collectors have suggested the diamond could be worth more than $1 million. However, certified gem appraiser Laura Stanley told The Associated Press that a high-quality six-carat yellow diamond from the park could be worth around $250,000.

The diamond’s unusual origin could also influence its value. Unlike stones purchased from conventional diamond suppliers, gems found at the Arkansas park have a distinctive history because visitors can personally discover them in their natural source area.

One of America’s Most Unusual Places to Hunt for Diamonds

Crater of Diamonds State Park is unusual because the public can search for diamonds and keep qualifying gemstones they discover.

The park charges visitors $15 to search with a five-gallon bucket of gravel. Most diamonds found there are considerably smaller than Pearadin’s discovery, but the possibility of finding something valuable continues to attract gem hunters from around the country.

More than 37,000 diamonds have been discovered at the site since it became a state park, according to the Associated Press.

Arkansas Has a Long Diamond History

The park’s history includes some remarkable discoveries.

The most famous is the Uncle Sam, a 40.23-carat diamond discovered in 1924. It remains the largest diamond ever found in the United States. The original stone was later cut into a 12.42-carat gem and became part of the Smithsonian’s mineral collection.

Pearadin’s discovery is much smaller than the Uncle Sam, but its size, color and unusual origin have made it one of the most talked-about finds at the park this year.

Pearadin Plans to Share the Profits

Pearadin plans to split any eventual profits from the American Dream diamond with Schumacher, who helped gather the gravel that produced the stone.

The longtime gem hunter has also said he hopes the discovery could help him pursue another dream: opening his own crystal mine.

For now, the exact value of the American Dream remains uncertain. But a six-carat yellow diamond found by an ordinary visitor while sorting Arkansas gravel is already an unusually memorable discovery.
