The International Black Bear Show opens Friday, July 31, at Yanmar Arena in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, bringing bear hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, vendors and hunting experts together for a three day event.
The annual show runs through Sunday, August 2, and features hunting gear, outdoor products, educational seminars, food vendors, taxidermy services and activities designed for hunters and families.
Grand Rapids Becomes a Hub for Bear Hunters
The event is designed to bring bear hunters from across the United States and Canada under one roof. Organizers say attendees can meet experienced hunters, talk with outfitters and dealers, and prepare for the upcoming bear hunting season.
The show is being held at Yanmar Arena, 1401 NW 3rd Ave. in Grand Rapids, giving the northern Minnesota community a major outdoor-focused event for the summer weekend.
Three Days of Seminars and Expert Advice
One of the biggest draws is the show’s lineup of free seminars featuring experienced hunters, biologists and outdoor professionals.
Friday’s schedule includes sessions from Bernie the Bear Professor, Brian Johnson, Jesse Koskiniemi and Richard P. Smith, with presentations covering bear biology, hunting techniques, bear meat preparation and hunting in agricultural areas.
Saturday brings another full slate of presentations covering baiting strategies, bear anatomy, hunting techniques, tracking dogs, taxidermy and the status of wolf hunting in the Midwest.
Sunday Brings a Final Round of Outdoor Sessions
The event continues Sunday with additional educational programs.
Attendees can hear discussions about bear meat preparation, bear behavior and hunting in agricultural areas before a presentation from Andy Tri, a Minnesota bear biologist, focusing on the state’s bear population and biology.
The combination of experienced hunters and wildlife experts gives the event an educational component beyond its traditional trade show format.
Vendors Bring Hunting Gear Under One Roof
The International Black Bear Show also serves as a large marketplace for the hunting community.
Organizers say dozens of dealers, sponsors, guides, outfitters and other hunting-related vendors will be available throughout the weekend. Visitors can browse equipment and supplies while talking directly with people who work in the bear hunting industry.
Taxidermists and other outdoor specialists will also be represented at the show.
Youth Activities Add a Family Angle
The event is not limited to experienced adult hunters.
A youth archery range is among the activities planned for the show, giving younger visitors an opportunity to take part in an outdoor activity while families explore the exhibits and seminars.
