APTA MN Move & Groove 5K Brings Runners and Families to Long Lake Regional Park

Runners, families and local community members will gather at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton, Minnesota, on Sunday, September 20, for the fourth annual APTA MN Move & Groove 5K and Kids Fun Run.

The event is organized by APTA Minnesota, with the race built around a simple message: movement matters. The morning will combine a children’s race, a certified 5K course, local exhibitors and opportunities for participants to connect with physical therapists.

When Is the Move & Groove 5K?

The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton.

The Kids Fun Run is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by a physical therapist-led warm-up and the main 5K at 10:15 a.m.

Registration and packet pickup begin earlier in the morning, with exhibitor and sponsor tables also opening before the races.

Kids Fun Run Leads Off the Morning

The 1K Kids Fun Run gives younger participants their own race before the main 5K gets underway.

The children’s event is part of the family-friendly focus of Move & Groove, giving parents and kids an opportunity to take part in the morning together.

Certified 5K Course and Chip Timing

The main event will use a certified 5K course, giving runners a standard 3.1-mile race distance.

Chip timing will also be used, allowing participants to receive officially recorded race results. Awards and prizes are part of the event program.

Physical Therapists Will Be Part of the Event

Move & Groove is designed to connect runners and families with local physical therapy professionals.

Participants will have an opportunity to talk with physical therapists about topics including injury prevention and ways to stay active.

The event also includes a physical therapist-led warm-up before runners and walkers line up for the race.

Local Exhibitors and Community Activities

The race will include vendor and exhibitor tables throughout the morning.

Those tables will give participants an opportunity to connect with organizations and businesses supporting the event while spending time at the park before and after the races.

The combination of racing, children’s activities and community exhibitors gives the event a broader local feel than a traditional 5K.

A Portion of Proceeds Will Support Jack’s Basket

The event also has a charitable component.

A portion of the proceeds from the Move & Groove 5K will go toward Jack’s Basket, adding a fundraising element to the annual race.

That community-focused mission is expected to be part of the event’s appeal for participants who want their race-day registration to support more than just the competition.

A Sunday Morning Community Event in New Brighton

With the Kids Fun Run scheduled first and the main 5K following shortly afterward, the September 20 event is positioned as a family-friendly morning at Long Lake Regional Park.

For runners, the certified course and chip timing provide a competitive race experience. For families and spectators, the children’s race, exhibitors and community focus offer additional reasons to attend.
