Meta is putting more of its advanced artificial intelligence features behind paid subscriptions as the company expands its Meta One service across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI.
The new subscription service launched Tuesday, September 15, with plans starting at $2.99 per month for individual apps and $7.99 per month for bundled access. Meta says the move gives users more access to AI-powered creation tools while keeping the core experience of its apps free.
What Meta One Gives Subscribers
Meta One is designed to combine several paid features under one subscription.
For users who want more AI access, the $7.99 Core plan includes expanded use of Meta AI along with features across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta says subscribers can generate more images and videos, use creative tools more often and get additional access to Instagram’s AI-powered Restyle feature.
A $19.99 Premium plan provides everything included with Core while giving users more room to use Meta’s AI tools and create content across the company’s apps.
Meta Is Not Making Its Apps Fully Paid
Despite the new subscriptions, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are not becoming paid-only services.
Meta says the core experience across its apps will remain free. Everyday use of Meta AI will also remain available without a subscription.
The paid plans are aimed at people who want higher usage limits, additional creative features or professional tools that go beyond the standard free experience.
Individual App Plans Start at $2.99
People who do not want the full Meta One bundle can still purchase individual subscriptions.
Instagram Plus costs $3.99 per month, while Facebook Plus is also $3.99. WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 per month.
The individual plans focus more on customization and additional app features, while the Meta One bundles add expanded AI capabilities.
More Than 50 Features Are Part of the Rollout
Meta says Meta One is launching with more than 50 features spread across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI.
The company says the service has already reached 15 million subscriptions and trials during its phased rollout. Meta plans to expand the subscription program to additional products, including Edits and its AI glasses.
For Meta, the broader subscription push creates another way to make money from its enormous social media audience beyond advertising.
Meta Is Also Targeting Creators and Businesses
Meta One is not limited to everyday social media users.
The company has introduced separate plans for creators and businesses, with pricing starting at $14.99 per month. Higher tiers include additional publishing tools, analytics, audience insights and business features.
The most expensive plans are aimed at teams and businesses that need greater access to Meta’s tools and AI-powered business services. Meta lists Expert plans starting at $149 per month and Max plans starting at $499 per month.
AI Image and Video Creation Is a Major Focus
One of the biggest changes is the amount of AI-powered content users can create.
Meta says paid subscribers will receive more access to image creation, image editing and video generation through Meta AI. The company is also increasing access to AI-powered creative features inside its social apps.
That could make the subscription especially relevant to people who regularly create Instagram posts, Stories, Reels or other digital content.
Meta’s Subscription Push Is Getting Bigger
Meta has been steadily adding paid features to its major apps throughout 2026.
The company previously introduced separate Plus subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta One now brings those offerings together with expanded AI capabilities and professional tools.
The strategy gives Meta a way to offer more advanced features to heavy users without removing the free versions that have helped its platforms reach billions of people.
What This Means for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp Users
For most users, little changes if they continue using the free versions of the apps.
People who want more AI-generated images and videos, additional creative tools or expanded premium features now have the option to pay for them.
Meta says the subscription plans are rolling out globally, but pricing, features and availability can vary depending on the region, app and account.
The bigger shift is that Meta is treating advanced AI as a premium feature inside the social apps people already use every day.
