Netflix is bringing back one of television’s most recognizable college sitcoms with a new generation of students, familiar faces and a fresh take on campus life.
The sequel series, A Different World, premieres Thursday, September 24, 2026, taking viewers back to the fictional Hillman College, a historically Black college that became a defining setting in the original series.

Debbie Allen, who played a major role in the original series as a producer and director, returns as an executive producer and directs the premiere episode.

For the sequel, she returns behind the scenes while also appearing as Dr. Langhorne, an academic advisor who interacts with Deborah.
