Forty years after The Transformers: The Movie first hit theaters, the classic animated film is returning to the big screen for a special 40th anniversary run.
Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment are bringing the 1986 movie back to participating U.S. theaters beginning Thursday, September 17, as part of the anniversary celebration known as Transformers Day. The limited theatrical event is scheduled to run through September 21.

The 40th Anniversary Screening Has New Footage
The biggest surprise attached to the 2026 theatrical event is material that was not part of the original 1986 release.
The anniversary presentation includes a new post-credits chapter created specifically for the theatrical event. The addition was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in July and gives fans another reason to stay through the credits.
That new material makes this more than a standard movie rerelease. Fans returning to a movie they may have watched decades ago will have something new waiting at the end.
The Return Leans Into Transformers Nostalgia
The theatrical event is part of Hasbro’s year-long 40th anniversary campaign, called the “Apology Tour.”

The movie is being shown at participating theaters, with individual locations and showtimes varying by market. Fathom says tickets are available through participating theater box offices and online ticketing services.
Some U.S. theaters are also offering premium presentations, including 4DX, adding another option for fans who want a more immersive theater experience.
