Jack Harris at the Angels. After taking a four-run lead in the first game and being down by one heading into Sunday’s ninth, the Angels won 6-5 over the Baltimore Orioles. Juan Lagares gave the Angels a walk-off double to score two runs to complete their three-game sweep of Sunday and extend their winning streak up to four.
The Angels (42-41) won the ninth game for the third consecutive week. This was their first win over.500 since June 13.
Manager Joe Maddon stated that “it’s becoming a prevalent theme.” “This group is never going away.”
The Angels had scored seven runs on Wednesday to beat Yankees. They then rallied from a four run hole to win a walk-off victory over the Orioles Friday. On Sunday, they waited until the final inning to score the winning run.
The Angels led 4-0 earlier in day. Two runs were scored in the first by Jared Walsh’s RBI double and Phil Gosselin’s RBI single. Two more runs were scored in the third by Shohei Ohtani’s solo home runs (his MLB-leading 31st, which tied Hideki Matsui for the record for most single-season runs by a Japanese-born pitcher) and Anthony Rendon.
Ohtani stated, through an interpreter matching Matsui’s mark, “I’m really excited that I’m at the same level as somebody I looked upto since I was a child.” “But, it’s only half of the story, so I like I said before, I want continue to build one hit at a while.”
Sunday’s league announcement announced that Ohtani was selected as a pitcher for All-Star status. Ohtani will also be participating in the Home Run Derby on Sunday, the day before the All-Star Game. Ohtani had been elected by fans to be the American League’s designated hitter. This makes him the first player in MLB history that has earned All-Star status as both a pitcher or a position player.
Jared Walsh was also selected to the team. Walsh has had a great first season in an everyday position. He had a.284 average batting,.909 on base-plus-slugging percentage and 20 home runs.

Walsh, Ohtani, and Mike Trout are the Angels’ three All-Stars for the first season since 2015.
TERRY DONAHUE
Ben Bolch and Terry Donahue. Terry Donahue won the most football games at UCLA than any other coach. He established a blue-and gold standard for continued success in his 20 years at UCLA.
Without what could have been his greatest achievements, getting to coach and play for the Bruins, none of this would have been possible.
He was initially overlooked by the school as a small defensive tackle. After stopping at San Jose State College and L.A. Valley College, the two-year starter became a member of the school’s first Rose Bowl championship team.
He rose from a young, untested 31 year-old to a respected coach. His 151 wins more than doubled the school’s record. His 98 victories in the Pacific 10 remain the conference record.
Donahue, the self-effacing, perpetually tanned coach who led the Bruins to their longest streak of football glory under one coach, passed away Sunday night at Newport Beach. He had been fighting cancer for two years. He was 77.
UCLA announced that Donahue had undergone surgery for an undisclosed type of cancer in May 2019. He was now starting chemotherapy. Donahue’s wife Andrea, three daughters, Nicole, Michele, and Jennifer, along with three sons and 10 grandchildren, are his survivors.
UCLA won four Pac-10 championships under Donahue and tied for another. Donahue was the first coach to win a bowl match in seven consecutive seasons. His teams were ranked among the top 10 nationally five years in a row.
DODGERS
Jorge Castillo for the Dodgers. On the day Major League Baseball announced the reserves, it was Albert Pujols, a future Hall of Famer who signed two months ago as an All-Star platoon player. He is now 41 years old and has made his final All-Star appearance in 2010. Sunday’s win over the Washington Nationals 5-1 gave the Dodgers the victory they needed most.
When Dave Roberts, Dodgers manager, summoned Pujols to pinch-hit against Joe Ross, the score was tied. Ross had just scored his 11th hit. After a leadoff double, Gavin Lux was at second base and Pujols smelled a RBI.
To give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, he lined a sinker down left-field to score a single. Tony Gonsolin (a pitcher) was called in to pinch-run Roberts’ slow-footed first-baseman. The move proved accurate when Gonsolin scored at first base on Max Muncy’s double to the right field gap. Muncy scored a second run in the ninth.
Major League Baseball announced that Muncy, Chris Taylor, and Mookie Betts were named National League All-Stars Sunday. Justin Turner, Justin Turner, Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler are the only remaining Dodgers snubs.

GALAXY
Kevin Baxter at the Galaxy. For Galaxy coach Greg Vanney the combination of a busy schedule and the loss several players to international service promised to test the team’s depth.
The test was made more difficult when Javier “Chicharito,” the league’s top scorer, was ejected from the team minutes before kickoff. Sega Coulibaly, center back, was then taken to the hospital with a right abductor injury shortly before halftime.
The Galaxy won the game, but Sporting Kansas City lost the most. Johnny Russell scored on the rebound of his shot to give Sporting Kansas City a 2-0 win.
The Galaxy tried to equalize the score in stoppage time but Khiry Shelton scored an insurance goal with a breakaway for the last touch of the game.
Russell scored his first goal of season in the 81st minutes after Galaxy keeper Jonathan Bond had failed to score. The rebound was sent straight to the Kansas City captain. He headed it in from eight yards. This gave the Galaxy their second consecutive home loss and moved second in the Western Conference standings, behind the Galaxy (7-4-0).

OLYMPICS
Helene Elliott at the Olympics. Shae Anderson saw her father’s whole body start to tremble, and his face turn pale.
Mark Anderson, an all-american decathlete from UCLA, won the 1980 NCAA championship. He still holds the school record in this event. Anderson had previously coached Shae during a busy track season. She was part of the 1,600-meter relay team which finished third at NCAA championships in 3 minutes, 25.01 seconds. After a quick turnaround, Shae reached the final of women’s 400m race at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore. last month.
Shae, the 2017 California state champion in the 300 meter hurdles and 400 meter run at Norco High was born in Oregon. She transferred to UCLA partly to be with her father. To help his daughter achieve her Olympic dreams, he resigned from his job as a motivational speaker and personal growth coach.
Shae’s Olympic ambitions became clear on June 20, when she placed eighth in a 400-meter final, a personal best time of 50.84 seconds. Quanera Hayes won the race in 49.78 seconds. She was followed by Allyson Felix, a nine-time Olympic gold medalist from Los Angeles (50.02), and Wadeline Jonathas (50.03). This trio was nominated for the Olympic team. Shae stated, “It was an extremely crazy race.”
Soon afterward Anderson received word that she would be going to Tokyo Olympics as a member the relay pool.
Their plans and worlds were changed two days later when Mark experienced severe, unexplainable stomach pains while in his Oregon hotel room.

SPARKS
Thuc Nhi Nguyen at the Sparks. Sunday’s fourth game saw the Sparks lose to the Seattle Storm at Los Angeles Convention Center.
Brittney Sykes scored 19 points, had 10 rebounds, and was able to assist five times in the season’s first seven games. However, the Sparks (6-11), were outmatched by former MVP Breanna Stewart (21 points) and Ezi Magbegor (20 points and 9 rebounds).
The Sparks lost their three-game homestand to the Seahawks and now head to Seattle to rematch the match Wednesday. Next Sunday, the Lynx will return home to face the Lynx in the final game of the month-long Olympic break. The break is too soon for an injury-ridden Sparks team.
