Carlos Santana Hospitalized in Texas Due to Dehydration, Concert Postponed

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana was hospitalized Tuesday evening, prompting a last-minute postponement of his scheduled performance in San Antonio, Texas.

The 77-year-old music icon was preparing backstage at the Majestic Theatre when he began experiencing symptoms later identified as dehydration. A statement released by Santana’s team confirmed the incident and noted that the decision to cancel the show was made “out of an abundance of caution” for the artist’s health.

Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management and Santana’s long-time representative, expressed regret over the sudden change of plans.

“It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight’s show in San Antonio has been postponed,” Vrionis said. “Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for the performance when he experienced a health event, which was determined to be dehydration. The most prudent course of action was to prioritize his well-being.”

Dehydration Incident Forces Brief Pause in Santana’s U.S. Tour

While fans were disappointed by the unexpected postponement, Vrionis reassured supporters that Santana is recovering well and remains eager to return to the stage. “He is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon, as well as continuing his U.S. Tour,” he added.

Ticket holders are being urged to retain their original tickets as a new date for the rescheduled performance will be announced shortly.

This recent health scare adds to a series of physical setbacks Santana has faced over the past few years. Earlier this year, in January 2025, the guitarist suffered a broken finger after a fall while vacationing in Kauai, Hawaii. The injury, which required surgery and the insertion of pins, forced a delay in his Las Vegas residency.

“He won’t be able to play guitar for approximately six weeks,” Vrionis explained at the time.

Santana has also dealt with similar health challenges in the past. In July 2022, the guitarist collapsed onstage due to heat exhaustion and dehydration during a Michigan concert, leading to another brief hospitalization.

Despite these health interruptions, Santana continues to embody an enduring passion for music and live performance. The 10-time Grammy winner, known for iconic hits like “Smooth” and “Maria Maria,” told PEOPLE in 2023 that his enthusiasm for music remains undiminished.

“There’s still a 7-year-old Carlos in me that looks at life like, ‘What are we going to get into today?’” he shared. “I’m just getting started. Everything up to now has prepared me for this.”

For now, fans across the U.S. are wishing Santana a swift recovery as they await his return to the spotlight.
