SHakopee, Minnesota, Willie Nelson is bringing the Outlaw Music Festival to Mystic Lake Amphitheater on Wednesday, Aug. 19, giving Minnesota country and Americana fans a chance to see one of the most enduring figures in American music alongside a strong lineup of roots and rock performers.
The Shakopee stop features Willie Nelson & Family, The Avett Brothers, Lukas Nelson, Sierra Hull, and Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble. The event is part of the 2026 Outlaw Music Festival tour, which is making a limited number of stops across the country this summer.
Willie Nelson Leads the Minnesota Lineup
Nelson remains the centerpiece of the Outlaw Music Festival, a touring event he has led for years as a showcase for country, Americana, roots and related styles.
At 93, Nelson continues to maintain an active touring schedule. His 2026 run includes a series of late summer dates across the Midwest and Northeast, with different artists joining the festival at different stops.
The Mystic Lake performance is one of the festival’s Midwest dates and follows an Aug. 18 performance at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The tour then continues to Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin on Aug. 21.
The Avett Brothers Join the Outlaw Festival
The Avett Brothers are among the most prominent names on the Shakopee bill.
The North Carolina group has built a broad following through a blend of folk, bluegrass, country, rock and Americana influences. Their appearance gives the Minnesota date an additional draw beyond Nelson’s longtime fan base.
The band’s inclusion also reflects the festival’s broader focus on artists who operate between traditional country and contemporary roots music.
Lukas Nelson Returns Alongside His Father
Lukas Nelson, Willie Nelson’s son, is also scheduled to perform at Mystic Lake.
Lukas has developed his own career as a singer, songwriter and guitarist while frequently appearing alongside his father. His presence adds a family connection to the Shakopee performance and has become one of the recurring elements of Willie Nelson’s touring lineup.
The 2026 Outlaw Music Festival lineup was built around a rotating collection of established and emerging roots artists, with Lukas Nelson among the performers appearing on several dates.
Sierra Hull Brings Bluegrass to the Bill
Sierra Hull is another standout performer scheduled for the Mystic Lake show.
The award winning mandolin player and singer has become a prominent figure in modern bluegrass, bringing traditional acoustic musicianship to a contemporary audience.
Her appearance gives the Shakopee concert a distinctly bluegrass element and broadens the musical range of the festival beyond mainstream country.
Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble
Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble are also part of the Aug. 19 lineup.
Was is a veteran producer, musician and bassist whose work has connected rock, soul, blues and other American musical traditions. His Pan Detroit Ensemble brings those influences into the festival setting.
The group is scheduled specifically for the Shakopee date, along with Willie Nelson & Family, The Avett Brothers, Lukas Nelson and Sierra Hull.
A Major Night for Mystic Lake Amphitheater
The Outlaw Music Festival is one of the major concerts scheduled at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater this summer.
The venue in Shakopee provides an outdoor setting for the festival and gives the Twin Cities area another large scale destination for touring artists.
The Minnesota Star Tribune previously reported that Nelson’s Aug. 19 appearance would mark his return to the Twin Cities after his memorable performance at Farm Aid in Minneapolis in 2025. The newspaper also noted that the new amphitheater addresses a long standing need for a large outdoor concert venue in the region.
What Makes the Outlaw Music Festival Different
The Outlaw Music Festival is not built around a single musical style.
Instead, the touring event brings together performers from country, Americana, folk, bluegrass, rock and roots music. That approach has helped the festival attract audiences beyond traditional country music fans.
The 2026 tour features different combinations of artists depending on the city. The Shakopee lineup is particularly focused on Willie Nelson, The Avett Brothers, Lukas Nelson, Sierra Hull and Don Was and the Pan Detroit Ensemble.
A Continuing Chapter for Willie Nelson
Nelson’s continued touring has become one of the most notable parts of his later career.
The singer has repeatedly rejected the idea that he is ready to stop performing, telling the Minnesota Star Tribune ahead of Farm Aid 2025 that he had not given retirement much thought and intended to continue as long as he could perform.
That makes the Aug. 19 performance more than another stop on a summer concert calendar. It is another opportunity for Minnesota audiences to see an American music icon performing with his family and a group of respected roots musicians.
