Among the largest vessels from the Iranian navy has caught fire and sank in the Gulf of Oman, according to the Nation’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
The blaze on board the massive training and tidal boat — known as the”Khark” — started early Wednesday morning.
“Despite 20 hours of all-out efforts by Civil and Naval Military Rescue Teams, the rescue operation of this Khark training service vessel was unsuccessful on account of the spread of fire at various components,” Fars stated in its title.
The ship sank off the shore of this southern Iranian port of Jask.
The cause of the blaze remains cloudy. The army vessel has been set up to international waters to get a training naval performance when one of its own systems caught fire near Jask, Fars reported.
It was in service for at least four years and had participate in several training operations.
