A Planet Fitness employee shared the experience of a gym-goer who wore a croptop to work out that she thought was inappropriate.

TikTok user Alana Gómez-Solis made a viral video about Planet Fitness’ Fairfield, New Jersey location. The facility is marketed as a place that doesn’t judge. Gomez-Solis claims that employees told her her her shirt was too short and she should wear her leggings more.

The image shows Gomez-Solis wearing a red croptop branded with Rutgers University. She is also wearing black gym leggings. This outfit would look great in any gym.

She captioned the clip with “Planet Fitness employees told me that this outfit violated their dress code.” She joked about the line, adding: “If I don’t like you, that’s fine. But you know, watch what you say.”

Planet Fitness’ dress code states that the gym will not allow “clothing that could be perceived as intimidating or revealing” or offensive. The gym lists prohibited clothing as: open-toed shoes; jeans or pants with prominent grommets; dirty clothes; and clothing with messaging that a reasonable individual may find offensive or inappropriate.

The video has been viewed over 200,000 times in five days. There have been many comments expressing confusion about Planet Fitness’ actions.

“Wait! What? One viewer wrote, “I actually wore a sports bra at Planet Fitness.”

“Is this more covered up than just about every Jersey Strong person?” They are kidding! Another was added.

“What? “What?

Planet Fitness released a statement apologizing for Gomez–Solis’ mistake and promising to train staff members on the company dress code. This doesn’t prohibit crop tops.

“We are deeply sorry for the unfortunate incident at our Fairfield, NJ office.

“In this case, a staff member applied a dress code policy to the company in error. We are currently working with the franchise owner in order to re-educate all of our employees on current policies.

“We also reached out to the member to express our deepest regret and to welcome her back to our clubs.”

In recent months, TikTok has made gym experiences viral, including a “horrifying” workout by a woman that confused viewers, and an all-female gym that sparked heated online debates.
