A California woman became famous via TikTok after she admitted she was charged over $50,000 from the hospital where she had her infant.

At the beginning of the year 2020, Shannon Mayor quit her job in the tech industry in order to create an small-scale company after she learned she was expecting, which prompted her to look for “the best insurance I can get,” she stated during a phone interview.

“To be honest, it was very stressful having to switch insurances and then also having to switch insurances a week before my baby was born to my husband’s insurance,” Mayor said to Insider. “Insurance is complicated. It’s not easy in this country to figure out, and you can be screwed if you don’t, you know, really think ahead.”

Mayor claimed she was in a private room in the hospital for the duration of a week. Mayor said to Insider that she had “a lot of gratitude towards my hospital stay, my doctor, and the care I received.”

“They took amazing care of my baby,” she stated.
