Seventy percent of American adults have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vacccine, officials said Monday, reaching a goal President Joe Biden had hoped to reach a month ago

Although the goal was lofty, Monday’s progress is encouraging, Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, said that it was a positive step.

She stated, “We have said from the beginning that even if we set this goal, it would not be finished. So we are forging ahead.”

As of Monday, more than 180.7 million people in the U.S. ages 18 or older, or 70 percent, have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The percentage for those aged 12 and older is 67.6 %. Children younger than 12 years old are not eligible for vaccination. A Food and Drug Administration official has said emergency use authorization for younger children could come by early to mid-winter.

With Covid-19 cases increasing across the country due to the more transmissible Delta variant, the 70 percent mark was achieved.

The CDC recently recommended that everyone wear masks in indoor settings in areas where the coronavirus is spreading widely. Evidence has shown that coronavirus can be spread as easily in fully vaccinated individuals as in unvaccinated ones.
