Marine rescue located in Canada has become a viral internet sensation after sharing a cute video of the sound that seal puppies make.

Marine Mammal Rescue gained over 6 million views through the post. It captured high-pitched sounds made by seal pups as they enter their weaning stage. “Did you know that baby harbour seals can be very vocal? Have a listen,” they wrote in the caption of the post.

The seal pups produced many different sounds that resembled gasps and gurgling noises while they moved subtly across the camera’s frame, all while melting hearts of millions.

As a rule, harbor seals are known to produce noise during two stages of their lives: as pups and during mating season. According to research that harbor seals of males produce underwater sounds that draw females during mating season. With their vocalizations they defend their territory against other males and also display their presence to females as well. Adults’ sounds are described as”roars,” which is “roar” with a frequency that is around 1.2 milliseconds.

Harbor seals are able to create sounds while in the air such as honks, barks grunts, growls and even mother-to-pup calls. The pups and their mothers will make sounds to keep in touch with each other as pups are able to make phone calls that can be heard for up to a mile away.

In the beginning in their life, babies can make an “maa” sound, but the sound will decrease during the nursing phase, which can last for up to four weeks.

While it’s cute to touch, it’s not recommended to do so touch, it’s actually not legal. It’s illegal. Marine Mammal Protection Act rules it’s illegal to contact or harass harbor seals throughout the U.S. The puppies are typically abandoned on the beach by their mothers during period of nursing to hunt for food on their own, but are not allowed to return until they not see any humans near the pup.

If the puppy is touched or moved even by those who believe they’re helping increase the likelihood of their mother leaving them.
