Yahya Jan, the architect building the world’s tallest hotel, Dubai’s Ciel Tower For the project, Jan was tasked with designing the skyscraper on a triangular plot of land in Dubai Marina with an area of just 2,500 square meters — little for a building of that height. A glass observation deck will offer 360-degree perspectives of the city, in addition to the shoreline and iconic landmarks like the Palm Jumeirah man-made island, according to the programmer, The First Group.
A passion project
“it is a property that is very compressed,” he explained. “It’s like what you would face in Manhattan or London. The limitations were tremendous, and yet we needed to make it work.” Now he is working on a few of his toughest creations. As a result in 2023, the Ciel Tower will possess over 1,000 rooms and suites spread over 82 flooring — and at around 1,200 feet (365 meters) high, it is set to become the world’s tallest hotel. He is president and design director of engineering and architecture company NORR, which will be behind a number of the town’s best-known landmarks, including the Atlantis and Shangri-La Hotels.
