Just Over 20% of Steam Users Are Using Windows 11

In a survey released by Steam, just over 20 percent of players are using Windows 11. Although that number may seem low at first glance, the number is steadily growing, and takes up 20 percent of the pie. The survey is a good indicator of Steam gamers’ preferences, as it asks about their operating system, RAM, and graphics card. A Steam player typing on a keyboard in the training room indicates they’ve already upgraded to the latest version of Windows.

Steam’s most popular graphics card

The Steam Hardware and Software Survey has released results for May. It reveals Windows 11 continues to be the top choice for Steam gamers, and is up from April. While older Windows versions gained some share, those who dropped their operating system have lost a few. Windows 7 (64-bit) fell from 3.2 percent to 2.50 percent. In this article we’ll examine how Windows 11 has affected gamers. We’ll also discuss the potential impact Windows 11 may have on gamers.

DirectStorage

While the new technology isn’t widely available today, Microsoft recently announced plans to bring it to Windows 10 and 11. It’s a welcome move that should improve PC game load times. DirectStorage works with any Windows-based operating system, so it shouldn’t have any problems running on either of them. Microsoft is planning to introduce the new technology during GDC later this month.

Oculus Quest 2

If you’ve been debating whether you should buy an Oculus Quest 2 headset, you’re in good company. This headset is now available in stock at major retailers, including Amazon. While Windows 10 has been struggling to attract consumers, it’s hoped that the new version of Windows will spark interest. While it’s not perfect, this new OS includes some useful changes.

DirectStorage on Steam Deck

If you’re a fan of Windows and portable gaming devices, you’ll want to install DirectStorage on your Steam Deck. DirectStorage can significantly speed up boot time on portable devices, and it also supports AMD’s fTPM. Windows 11 also comes with a few caveats, though, so it’s important to know which you’ll be using. For most people, Windows is probably the best option.

TPM 2.0

While Windows 11 is the latest operating system to be released, you might still be wondering how to install it on your computer. While TPM 1.2 modules were outdated, TPM 2.0 requires a newer version. This requirement caused some controversy and price spikes, but thankfully, Windows 11 is available for download on a Windows Insider program. Windows Insiders are encouraged to use the new operating system before the general public, which ensures user safety.

Installation issues

Despite the fact that the latest version of Windows is widely available, just over 20% of Steam users have encountered problems with Windows 11 installation. The most common issues include purple checkerboards, missing weapons, and world models. Gamers have to constantly upgrade graphics drivers and check for compatibility issues. Some PCs simply do not support Windows 11 and users should always check before buying a new computer. If you have an old computer, you should always make sure to update the graphics drivers.
