Most people want to live a long and healthy life. If you are one of these people, it might be a good idea to give up on eating beef hot dogs. You might be wondering why. Well, a new study suggests that the summertime treat could be taking precious minutes off of your life.

This is the main takeaway from a study that was published in Nature Food. __S.6__ The environment and the risk of developing ischemic heart disease, colorectal carcinoma, and other cardiovascular diseases. Researchers found that swapping 10% of your daily calories from processed meats and beef for vegetables, fruits, and some seafood could lead to improvements in health, including 48 minutes of “healthy living” each day. This swap can also reduce your dietary carbon footprint (aka your total greenhouse gas emission) by 33 percent, according to the research.

When it comes to eating just one beef hot dog on a bun, specifically, the study found that doing so can take 36 minutes off of your life “largely due to the detrimental effect of processed meat.” However, eating hot dogs in a bun (the researchers called them “frankfurter sandwiches”) can have a similar effect.

Turns out that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches can add up to 33 minutes to your life per serving, according to the study, although the choice of bread and ingredients were not specified. Additionally, however, by consuming one serving of nuts, you could gain 26 minutes of “extra healthy life,” according to research.
